I have traveled around the world working for powerful fashion designers and PR agencies. Through this blog, I want to document my experiences as I live them. I have learnt so much about the inside world of the fashion industry and this blog will share in my adventures. Warning: I am not a valley girl "OMG no way!" blogger, I enjoy insightful writing... so think of me more as a crazy scientist in the fashion industry who is humble and appreciative of the life I lead!

Katey Sagal = the fashion chameleon

Reason number 1934000044 why I love Katey Sagal :

She can transform her look effortlessly from the vibrant spandex-loving, big hair wearing Peg Bundy from Married with Children to the dark and rock-n-roll chic Gemma from Son's of Anarchy...

Ode to Oprah....A Look Back at her Style Throughout the Years...

"If you want to be on the cover of Vogue and Anna Wintour says you have to be down to 150lbs — that's what you gotta do," Oprah told BBC News.

1998 - Oprah on the cover of Vogue

Oprah Winfrey is the ultimate success story. From being first African-American celebrity to grace the cover of Vogue, to campaigning for the first black president, to starting her own  magazine and launching her own network, Oprah has hit many milestones. From big moments to big fashion, Oprah knows how to make a statement.

In honor of her finale episode airing tomorrow Wednesday May 25th 2011, I have put
together some pics of her most memorable fashion moments of the past 25 years.

1986 - First national broadcast of The Oprah Winfrey Show

80's Oprah stole the show when she interviewed Elizabeth Taylor

1997 - Loving Oprah's slick hair-do at the People's Choice Awards

2005- Oprah gave away a new car to each of her audience members in this stunning bright red Celine skirt-suit, which matched the red ribbon on the key chains

2007 - Oprah at the Opening of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa

May 24th 2011 - Oprah at her "Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular"

We'll miss you Oprah! Thanks for memories <3

My Summer Swimwear Pick

In several ancient cultures, owls were viewed as very "cool birds"(insert british accent here). Now you can wear this bird of prey when you hit the beach this Summer.

Nude, Campbell Soup, Urinal Dresses

When you are getting ready for a night out on the town do you ever stop and think "Ohh yaaa I can wear the urinal dress tonight!!!" (Perhaps Lady Gaga does?!)  Well now everyone can have that option!

I recently came across these walking works of art from the Venus in Sequins collection shown at London Fashion Week .I must admit these dresses are refreshingly creative and I enjoy the playful side they bring to summer. Not to mention, they are all handmade artwork dresses, a lot of sequins and embroidery went into their construction.

Get one before Lady Gaga snatches them all up! http://www.notjustalabel.com/

Deliciously Detailed Desserts at Cake Opera Co.

If I had to pick something that I loved just as much as fashion and sharks....hands down, it's CAKE.

Recently, my sweet tooth was able to locate the most delicious and beautiful cakes I have ever seen. What's even better; the store is located right here in the heart of Toronto and its called Cake Opera Co.

Alexandria Pellegrino is the artist behind these extravagant cake creations, which are becoming not only a hit in Canada, but also giving her international recognition. In fact, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden ordered a cake from her for their big wedding day.

It's no wonder Alexandria's cakes are in demand, her knowledge of art and art history allow her to create intricate cakes that quickly become a masterpiece (almost too beautiful to eat!). Having studied Fine Art at OCAD and experiencing life abroad in Florence to study art history she gained a lot of inspiration for her cake designs. After visiting the enchanting city of Florence, Alexandria returned to Canada to enrol in Le Cordon Blue Patisserie program and it was here that she combined her passion for the arts with beautiful desserts.

Check out these pirate themed cakes, it’s one of my faves!

Cake Opera Co. is located at 1136 Eglinton Avenue West or you can check out her site: http://www.cakeoperaco.com to see more of her fabulous creations!

Fashion Shark Attack!

Just found this! These sketches from AleXsandro Palombo of Anna Wintour combine my love for sharks with fashion! Love the combination of the two <3

Best of the Week

Here are the top 5 things you need to know this week!

1) Bridesmaids Movie
It's HILARIOUS! It really is like Hangover for women- they even have a female version of Zach Galifianakis' character Allen.

MUST SEE!

2) #losing Ashton Kutcher to replace Sheen on Two and a Half Men
Whether you love him or hate him there really is no one that can do Two and a Half Men BUT Charlie Sheen.

3) Disney’s Cinderella vs the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The comparison between the outfits seen at the Royal Wedding and Disney's Cinderella are truly remarkable!

Beatrice and Eugenie vs the Ugly Sisters

4)  New Love: Face-framing choker necklaces
No more dangling pendants this summer, instead lets focus on stunners above the collarbone.

5) AleXsandro Palombo sketches The Donald
The artist responsible for sketching Karl Lagerfeld preggers and Anna Wintour on the toilet has decided to turn political with a sketch of Donald Trump representing everything BUT presidential.

*I think the sharks really bring the hair-do together*

NYC Secret Shopping Destination...

Shopping in Soho had to be one of the key highlights from my New York City trip!

In Soho I discovered an AMAZING fashion find; the store is called "Necessary" and the name could not be more suitable for the clothing you find inside the store. Think of H&M mixed with Top Shop and that is the vibe you get with Necessary.

Everything is inexpensive and stylish, and more importantly, it doesn't look cheap! There are some really cute dresses for Spring/Summer at the store right now and all their Fall shoes are on sale for amazingly low prices!

If you are in the New York City area you MUST check out Necessary!

Total for the day: I bought 1 navy printed dress, 1 pair of pale blue skinny jeans, 1 summer tees, 1 pair of jet black harem pants and a faded blue jean jacket for less than $200. AMAZING!

Finally in NYC! - Obama at Ground Zero!

Obama arrived at ground zero today to pay his respects to the firefighters and families that lost their loved ones and risked their lives on 9/11. Now that Osama has been killed, Obama hopes that the news will bring some kind of closure to the families that have been grieving for so long.

I was lucky enough to make it past the barrier to watch the whole thing go down at ground zero. In fact, U.S.A Today noticed that I had achieved such a great placement in the lineup to where Obama would be arriving that they came over to interview me.

Really, the only reason I got such a great spot is because I happened to be in the right place at the right time. I am staying at the hotel that is right next to ground zero and I could see all the people start to pile into the streets when they heard Obama was making his way to the site. I took a walk outside my hotel and I went into a pizzeria before I tried to fight my way for a spot to stand on the sidelines. I bought a beer and a pizza and when I walked out they had blocked off all other pedestrians behind a barrier, but I was able to stay where I was...next to pizza shop and Firefighters and Emergency Workers that had all been on location at the World Trade for the rescue and recovery of 9/11 victims. I heard some pretty amazing stories of heroic action that took place... I really don't know how they were able to look at so much death and still have a positive attitude today. These guys were really inspiring to listen to!

U.S.A Today also asked me my thoughts on what Canada thinks of Obama's visit to ground zero. I personally think it was the right move, as he is a major representative of the country it only made sense that he visit ground zero after his announcement of Osama's death; undoubtedly the biggest terrorists to have ever scared America into thinking they were indestructible.  I think that the news and the re-visit to the ground zero site will bring closure to the families that lost loved ones that day and it is about time they had some relief.

U.S.A Today also asked me if I think Osama's death means more terrorist attacks in the future. I would have to say that yes, it does mean we are going to be on high alert for a while because Osama's followers will want to retaliate. I hate to think of what that retaliation will entail, but I am hoping that we catch them before any plans are set in motion. All we can do is hope.

All in all, it was a good day for my first day in NYC.

*Also!!! Anderson Cooper is literally on the rooftop next door to me right now on-air with CNN and I just want to hop over there and express my undying love for him and his reporting lol...but I will refrain myself!

*Also, fun fact I learned today - Hilary Clinton is much shorter in person!

The Death of Osama

Tonight; Sunday May 1st 2011, President Obama confirmed that Osama bin Laden is dead!

America is in full celebration after the death was announced...(New York especially!)

An interesting fact, both Hitler AND Osama were pronounced dead on May 1st.

May Issue of Glow Magazine

My gal Erin is featured in the May issue of Canada's GLOW Magazine.

This issue is all about "Sexy Short Hair for Spring"

In their Spring hairstyle spread, Erin is rockin' the sassy shag made popular by Joan Jett in the 80's. It's a light and wispy look accented with strong bangs to give it some weight. It's got that bed head vibe made possible by applying a curl-defying spray to your hands and scrunching your hair to give it some texture. Finally to finish off the look, set your style with a lightweight aerosol hairspray.

I love this hairstyle since it's right up my alley of playful edgy-chic. Erin is definitely rockin' it well!

Sarah Burton on Kate Middleton's wedding dress

Yesterday on April 29th, the world watched as Kate Middleton got out of the car at Westminster Abbey to reveal her much anticipated wedding dress. I tuned in at 4am (Toronto Time) to see her step out of the car, and I could not have been more impressed with her dress. The first thing I thought was "Grace Kelly;" the lace sleeves were exquisite and the dress shaped her slim body beautifully. Pretty much, she nailed it.
Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen was the designer behind this magnificent creation. I am sure her phone has been ringing off the hook with congratulations along with the press wanting to interview her on how exactly she managed to keep the whole thing a secret for so long. However, we will have to wait to hear from her as “neither she nor any other company representative is giving interviews today or in the coming days.” (Which is very respectful in my opinion; to let the couple have their moment and not take over the spotlight)
This is the only statement Sarah Burton has made to the press since the announcement of her being the designer behind Kate's (or Catherine as we now call her) dress:
“It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created. I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship. Alexander McQueen’s designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes and I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day.
“The last few months have been very exciting and an incredible experience for my team and I as we have worked closely with Catherine to create this dress under conditions of the strictest secrecy. Understandably, Catherine has been very keen to keep the details of her dress a secret, which is every bride’s prerogative, and we gave an undertaking to keep our role confidential until the day of the wedding.
“Catherine looked absolutely stunning today, and the team at Alexander McQueen are very proud of what we have created. The dress was just one component of a spectacular day, and I do not think it is appropriate to comment any further beyond saying that I personally am very grateful and honoured to have been given the opportunity to work on this project, and I wish TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge every good wish for the future.”

My Mum - 70's in London

My English mum, livin' it up in central London in the 70's. I absolutely love her style, there is no doubt I followed in her footsteps! I only wish she kept these outfits to pass down to me!!!!!

The Gorgeously Talented Matthew Williamson

This past Summer/Fall 2010, I was fortunate enough to work for a PR company on Bruton Street in London, where I had the pleasure of meeting Matthew Williamson during Vogue Fashion Night Out. He is almost as striking in person (could not get over those chiseled cheek bones!) as his impressive womens-wear collection.

Matthew William's flagship store resides at 18 Bruton Street, and he arrived early that day on September the 8th to make sure all preparations were in order for his VFNO party. That night, all of Bruton Street from DIANE von FURSTENBERG's store to British VOGUE Headquarters was packed with celebrities and fashion-lovers alike.

I was pleased to attend both Matthew Williamson's party along with DIANE von FURSTENBERG's and a few others on the street.

Getting back to point...as you may know, after Wills and Kate's wedding announcement, people turned to Matthew Williamson as one of the eligible designers to be commissioned to make her gown. Speculation grew once they heard Matthew Williamson had announced the launch of his first bridal collection.

However, Williamson set the record straight for VOGUE and said that dressing Kate wasn't his "thing."

During a VOGUE party he exclaimed that "Kate isn't a fashion bunny" and "I don't know why everyone in fashion is waiting to see what she wears. I'm like, thinking: get over it."

So, the speculation over Williamson as the designer has been put to rest, but there is no denying that his latest bridal collection will delight future brides-to-be.

The Queen of London Designers

One of the most inspirational designers I have had the pleasure to work with, Elizabeth Emanuel is celebrating the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William with a lovely royal wedding inspired t-shirt from her label "Art of Being."

Elizabeth Emanuel , the co-designer of Princess Diana's wedding gown has proven she still has the knack for making exquisite designs. This past summer, she debuted her "Little Black Dress" Spring/Summer 2011 collection at London Fashion Week, which received rave reviews and a article in VOGUE titled- "The Comeback Queen."

I had the pleasure to work with Liz during London Fashion Week and I have to say, she is the sweetest and most humble woman I have had the pleasure to meet in the fashion industry.

Today, I placed my order for my very own "The Art of Being Princess" black low cut racer-back vest with gold glitter print. I can't wait to receive it in the post!

Check out her website to get your very own shirt from the lady that knows all too well about royal weddings - Elizabeth Emanuel.
